Showing you how we turn waste to value.

About us

Agape BSF Unit is part of Agape Innovations Limited that is redefining how we incorporate waste management with agriculture.

We do this using black soldier fly farming, Azolla farming , Mushroom farming and Vermiculture.

Our efforts turn over 1 ton of organic fertilizer into useful products, help farmers join agroecological farming by providing a 100% organic fertilizer and offer trainings and help individuals and communities join the circular economy and green businesses.

Our Dogma.

We advocate a shift from a linear “take-make-waste” model to one that mimics natural cycles, where waste from one process becomes a resource for another. Specifically, organic waste should be viewed as a valuable resource, not simply as something to be discarded.

BLACK SOLDIER FLY TECHNOLOGY

We use black soldier flies to convert organic waste to organic fertilizer. we get the waste from the markerts around luweero district, schools and institution. We sort, crush and feed this waste to our black soldier fly larvae. These convert it to frass which we modify further to make a fertilizer known as Agape Organic fertilizer.

The input is the organic waste and the output is fertilizer, and animal feed.

AZOLLA FARMING

Azolla, a fast-growing aquatic fern, offers numerous benefits, particularly in agriculture and animal feed.  Azolla also plays a role in environmental sustainability by fixing nitrogen, reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers, and potentially mitigating methane emissions.

It’s a rich source of protein, vitamins, and minerals, making it a valuable supplement for livestock and poultry.

VERMICULTURE

Vermiculture, the process of using earthworms to decompose organic waste, offers numerous benefits. It produces nutrient-rich vermicompost, enhances soil structure and water retention, and can help suppress plant diseases and pests. Additionally, vermiculture is an environmentally friendly way to recycle organic waste.

Vermiculture is useful for soil enrichment, waste management, and improved plant growth.

MUSHROOM FARMING

Mushrooms offer significant benefits for waste management through their ability to decompose organic matter and convert it into valuable resources. They can break down agricultural and industrial waste, reducing the need for landfill space and potentially harmful waste treatment processes.

The resulting spent mushroom substrate (SMS) can then be used as a soil amendment, improving soil fertility and potentially reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers.
